When our Children ask Hard Questions

Proverbs 1:8 “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother”

Tonight my daughter asked me why her mommy and I were not living together. What a hard question to answer to a young child. The answer was deferred to me so I simply stated, "Sometimes parents have problems and we have to do difficult things until we can figure them out. However we Love you and God will fix our problems and everything will be better." I only tried to give her an answer that would fill her with hope yet incorporating truth.

I don't think it matters who made what decisions, there is no room for blame in this situation. Simple truths and that God will take care of us is the only truth. Philippians 4:19, "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Somehow they will know if you do not share the whole story. Sometimes they will ask for more, sometimes not. The only thing that matters is you share the truth, then pray about it with them and this may also help them gain some comfort or understanding. Letting them pray can also help you check there temperature gauge on subjects also.

God wants us to raise our children in his ways (Proverbs 22:6, Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.) and as a father we are required to do all we can to fulfill that command. Mothers are also responsible and they should follow the lead of the father in these matters. Unless he refuses to be that spiritual leader, then she is forced to take on that role. As a father you should not burden her with this, this is our role and we should step up and take the reins. It doesn't matter what you did or did not do yesterday, do it today. Start leading and they will follow, it will make a world of difference in your home.

Children are the blessing of God sent to teach us a whole new understanding of life. Psalm 127:3, "Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him." As a father this allows us to have a glimpse of what our Heavenly Father wants for us. Some men are inherit the blessing of fatherhood and they can reach the same fulfillment as blood fathers can. I give thanks for those with the courage to step up and be fathers and grandfathers to children others have abandoned. This takes an incredible spirit moving in them and God will bless them beyond understanding for their unselfish Love and sacrifice. Many women are mothers who have also stepped up and I want to lift them up too, as they play a pivotal role in the children's lives and they too will be blessed beyond understanding.

Lets Pray: Father God, Please hear our prayers and forgive us for our sins Lord. We first want to thank You for all that You do in our lives. Father, thank You for the understanding and wisdom to answer those difficult questions. We know as a father that it isn't always easy to do this, so thank You for answering our questions and prayers Lord. Many of us are blessed to be able to answer those questions for our children or grandchildren. Father please keep those channels open even if we are not in the same home lord. Allow these children to know us as fathers and Lord keep the fathers in the fight to raise these children too. Convict those who need to step up, mend broken relationships between children and their fathers and Lord introduce those who do not know them. Father I ask you bless those who step into these roles who do not have to Lord. Those who take children as their own and ask for nothing in return. Father we ask as parents that you keep our children safe, watch over all of us and continue to give us wisdom, understanding and strength to tackle those tough questions that will come. In Jesus name we pray...AMEN.
