Do We Ask if We Should?

Proverbs 1:2-5, 7 - To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding, To receive instruction in wise behavior, Righteousness, justice and equity; To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion, A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel...The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

We are so busy asking whether or not we can do something, when we should be asking if we should. I know i am just as guilty of this as anyone else. Last week was a prime example of not only my convincing myself I was in the right (with a little help from the enemy), I also tried to convince those around me of my justified endeavor. After some prayer and a top notch group of Spiritual Soldiers, the truth was quickly revealed to me. I was so busy figuring out how I could carry out this task, I never once stopped to ask if I should. We must stop and seek the counsel of God and those Christian emissaries He places around us. This can and will save us a lot of aggravation, frustration and embarrassment, but very well could also save your freedom, life and even salvation. Matthew 24:9-13 , “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

I don't believe it matters what you are facing positive or negative like, career changes, new house, new car, troubling issues, family squabbles, etc...We should ask God what direction he wants us to take. Then be still and listen for His answer. The mistake most of us makes, is the fact we predetermine His response, therefore all we look for is confirmation of this preformed conclusion. So we miss our answer and quite possible our blessing. We may even take a path God did not intend for us and now we have opened ourselves to many other issues. We should never take a stand until God has delivered His message to us and confirmed it. Remember if it doesn't breathe life then it is not of God. So when you are looking for discernment of a particular problem, be careful to not to anticipate Gods response, let Him speak. Proverbs 3:5-7, Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

Remembering that we are here to serve our Heavenly Father and those around us, His response may very well be based on this line of thought. Will this act praise our Father and Bless others? Are we truly putting the Kingdom first and using the Word to promote the Kingdom? Or are we using self serving motives to promote our decisions? Only you know the answer to these questions. I caution that you ask yourself these thought provoking questions, then go to prayer and let God reveal your path. God wants us to succeed, to flourish and above all to Love and be Loved. There is no problem to big and no pain or ailment that our Father cannot cure. Follow His laws, serve Him and He will Bless you. Hebrews 11:6, And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Let's Pray: Father God Thank You for all the Blessings You provide in our lives Lord. Father please forgive us for our poor decisions and actions Lord. Lord we know had we sought you first our results would have been different. Father we want to continue to walk in the path of Jesus. Father God please give us the wisdom, strength and patience to follow the direction You are guiding us too. You are a gracious God and we ask all of these things in Jesus name.....AMEN.
